Aiming to Please With Alaska Cod

By:  Allie Moxley

While not everyone in the world may be a fish aficionado, there are ways to introduce certain fish into the diets of the most skeptical of audiences. Genuine Alaska cod possesses such a light and mild flavor that even the biggest opponent of fish has a hard time finding something to object to. The fresh, crisp waters of Alaska produce some of the finest fish in the world and the strict fishing laws that are in place ensure that there will be plenty of fish for generations to come. Though a whole variety of tasty swimmers populate the ocean around Alaska, cod is an excellent choice when looking for a fish that will be a total crowd pleaser.

When entertaining a crowd that may not be entirely comprised of dedicated fish lovers, incorporating cod into any dish is the best way to appease all tastes. By using the right recipe you can quickly and easily prepare a delicious dish featuring genuine Alaska cod. One great recipe is for spicy basked cod. The range of intensity in regards to the spice of the dish remains entirely in the hands of the cook. If you are entertaining a group with adventurous palates then feel free to go crazy with the heat, but if they are more on the reserved side, toning down the spice might be a better option. The ease of this recipe is another great feature, giving the most novice chef the appearance of having exceptional culinary skills.

To prepare spicy baked genuine Alaska cod, you will need to assemble just a few ingredients. You will need 1 ½ pounds of fresh cod fillets, two tablespoons of fresh chopped parsley, two cups salsa, and salt and pepper according to taste. When these ingredients are in order be sure to pre-heat the oven to 350°F. Rinse off the cod fillets and gently dry them. Lightly grease a medium sized baking dish and place the fillets in it, covering them with the salsa. Then sprinkle the parsley, salt, and pepper evenly over the fillets. Place the dish in the oven and allow the fish to bake for thirty minutes until the flesh flakes easily when tested with a fork.

The simplicity of this recipe is astounding but the resulting flavor is anything but commonplace. For the truly adventurous guests you can chop up some fresh jalapeños and offer them on the side to be added at their own taste and peril. Genuine Alaska cod is a great crowd pleaser, no matter who that crowd may be.
