Simplicity is the Virtue of Canned Salmon

By:  Allie Moxley

燡ust about any supermarket in America offers its customers canned salmon, and thankfully so, since otherwise we would all have to go without any salmon meat for many months of the year, in between seasons.?/p>

Nonetheless, many folks don't seem to quite appreciate the versatility of canned salmon, and fail to realize the wide variety of delicious recipes with canned salmon that, in addition to being simple, will exceed the highest expectations that can be placed upon this treat of our rivers and seas.?/p>

For starters, there is the option of simply arranging canned salmon-drained of all the juices in the can-alongside a nice assortment of cheeses, crackers, and fruits or veggies.?This classic appetizer will allow anybody to appreciate the full flavor that completely sets salmon in a league of its own when it comes to fish meat.?Though simple, this is one of the most successful recipes with it that you'll find out there.

Another great (and simple) dish that is just right for the flavor and texture of canned salmon is a light and healthy salad with cherry tomatoes, roasted red peppers, and olives.?Simply mix roughly equal parts of these four excellent ingredients (the peppers can also be canned, though fresh roasted pepper is easy to prepare at home) and condiment to one's desire: a simple olive oil and balsamic vinegar mixture with salt and pepper and a few crushed, dry herbs is a decent bet.?It can be great as a side dish, though in abundance this can be a great main dish for lunch or dinner.

Lastly, there are some phenomenal recipes with canned salmon that involve using the food processor.?Take a can of salmon and put it in the food processor with cream cheese and mayonnaise, and a splash of olive oil (the amount of salmon should equal the amount of these other ingredients together).?Blend it all in with some herbs-go nuts, and be liberal with the rosemary, basil, parsley, tarragon, what have you-and some salt and pepper, and then serve it cold in a small dipping bowl with some tortilla chips or baked pita slices.?/p>

All in all, these recipes with canned salmon are great not only because of their simplicity, but because of their tactful and tasteful pairing of complementary flavors.?Whatever it is you like (salads, soups, sandwiches, etc.), you're sure to find that there's a way to make it with canned salmon, too!?/p>
