Convenient Canned Seafood
I used to be jealous of that small percentage of Americans living in Alaska.?It wasn't the extravagant landscapes of glacial peaks and noble forests that I envied; it was the perpetual availability of succulent seafood fresh from the freezing waters.?Far from any ocean, quality seafood can be difficult to come by.?I imagine that the majority of Americans suffer from this problem, and for them I have good news: I am no longer jealous of Alaskans, because I have discovered their treasures on the shelves of my supermarket - canned Alaska salmon! These tins make it super easy to create great concoctions from seafood soup recipes.
Canned Alaska salmon retains all of its fresh flavor, delicate texture, and health benefits, while being simple and straightforward to use.?It is always "in season," and is widely available even for us landlocked folk.?You don't have to allow time to thaw it out as you do with frozen filets, and you don't have to clean up the skin or carefully pick out bones.?The skin and tiny bones are tenderized during processing, adding their own flavor and nutrition - or you can buy cans that are 100% skinless and boneless, if you prefer.?Canned salmon works in just about any of your favorite seafood soup recipes, and it comes ready to serve.?You can cook it into patties or scatter it over a salad for extra color, flavor, texture, and nutrition.
A wonderful way to use canned salmon is in a rich seafood soup recipe.?Whenever I have whole steaks or filets, I can never resist throwing them on the grill, and I end up neglecting the chowders and stews that are some of my favorite methods of serving seafood.?Canned salmon is ready to be added to any stew, filling it with color and flavor, not to mention lots of great protein and Omega-3 oils.?If you want to avoid the heavy cream and butter of a bisque, instead try using your salmon in other seafood stew recipes, like an Asian noodle soup, or a Portuguese-style stew.?The flavor combinations are endless with this versatile ingredient, but remember not to over-spice your soups - you want to let the natural flavors of the salmon stand out.
Canned salmon requires minimal preparation to use, and can be added to almost any dish.?It works particularly well in seafood soup recipes, since it comes ready to serve.?Next time you are craving the fresh tastes of Alaska, stock up on canned salmon and get to cooking!
